Business owner and beauty therapist, Amina Adem, believes a complete life is one that includes giving back. Since 2004, as the founder of Kind Heart through her children’s Sunday school, she has raised thousands of dollars for charity and a portion from all of her product sales from Amina Adem Natural Skincare go to her favorite causes. Among those causes is Covenant House of California, a sanctuary for homeless teens created to help them turn their lives around. Amina’s volunteer efforts also include helping an Eritrean refugee school in Sudan, where she teamed up with the philanthropy, Healing Bridges, to help provide school supplies and build a library for young refugees. Amina says succeeding in business isn’t complete without that success leading to a better world.
"Every year I look for a project to tackle and I had been looking for one regarding education. Someone had recommended that I look into working with Healing Bridges. I came across a video of a 16-year-old girl who had traveled to Sudan with the organization to help Eritrean refugees in Sudan.
I immediately contacted the organization looking for ways that I could fundraise. They put me in contact with the young girl. I spoke with her and she described the situation in Sudan to me. They had no tables or chairs, no backpacks, and no pencils or notebooks. They had to walk two hours just to get to school. It was completely heartbreaking. In that moment, she knew she had to do something.
Our goal was to fundraise and buy the girls desks, backpacks, notebooks, books, and uniforms. Initially, we raised $10,000 for them. Later that year, she invited me to her graduation party in the Hollywood area in beautiful a home. She was very comfortable a life with a loving family. Her party was actually a fundraiser for the schoolgirls in Sudan. I was amazed by the compassion I saw that day. It touched my heart to see that the girl had framed and was selling pictures she had taken of the schoolgirls at her graduation party. It was so inspiring to see that if you are passionate about something, there are so many ways that you can contribute.
Two years later, the Kind Heart project, raised $5000. With her and Healing Bridges as my inspiration, we built a library for the girls. It has been an honor to help them in pursuing education and helping make college attainable. Several of the students have gone on to graduate from college and more are attending." -Amina Adem
Amina Adem Natural Skincare has partnered with these organizations to offer a helping hand. The wonderful nonprofit humanitarian organization, ARAHA, has teamed up with us in creating a scholarship fund sponsored by Amina Adem Natural Skincare. We have chosen to continue giving back and donate a portion of our profits to both the Eritrean Refugees in Sudan and The Covenant House of California.

In 2012, I was sitting in my living room and I watched a reporter on the news talk about the Covenant House of California. At the time, I was volunteering in my children’s Sunday school and was in charge of community outreach. I had founded the Kind Heart Project in 2004 which was centered around helping underprivileged children struggling in the local community.
Through this project, we had raised about $50,000 for different organizations such as the Children’s Hospital and Healing Bridges. When I saw the program describing the Covenant House, I immediately felt my heart calling me to reach out to them and get involved.
At Covenant House California, we believe that no young person deserves to be homeless; that every young person in California deserves shelter, food, clothing, education… and most importantly to be loved. And we believe that it is our responsibility, as a community, to ensure that young people are given the opportunities that they deserve to achieve their dreams..
When I visited, I didn’t know what to expect but was immediately in awe of how organized and passionate this organization was about helping underprivileged youth in Los Angeles. I asked if I could fundraise for them and they accepted. I went back to my Sunday school and collected coin donations for 4 months and raised approximately $5,000.
One morning, I decided to take my son and a few youths from Sunday school to visit the Covenant House. My intent was to provide them with lasting life lessons from this experience but ultimately, all of us walked away with much more than that that day. A bus had brought two brand new kids to the center and they were playing on a playstation.
They looked to be young adults. They were so excited and happy to be playing. I stood there and thought, “Oh my goodness, kids are still kids no matter their situation”. Ever since that day, the Covenant House has never left my heart. Now that I have started my own business, I would like to be able to give back to them.
I have reached out to them once again and they have agreed to allow me to sponsor them and fundraise for them through my company. I am so honored to be a part of this wonderful organization and I have committed to donating a percentage of my proceeds to them.
